Critique my flower please.

Posted by on 08.01.16

This is the start to a full-color floral 1/2 sleeve consisiting of sunflowers, hibiscus, daisies, and this daffodil. I should be adding in the stalk and leaves next session (will provide updated pics soon) I'm just looking for some critiques. Thank you.

Looking good :) I always find yellow flowers in particular to be tough to tattoo. Getting shadows on them is a weird thing to try to do. I think your daffodil is looking sweet so far and especially once there's some other greenery and flowers it'll pop. I don't know if you're looking for a no black line look but if you're ok with lines, you could make the parts of the flower closest to us a bit thicker lines to bring them forward. And maybe a wee bit more contrast in the centre part?

good luck!

Yellow is so tough to use. I think you nailed it. Sometimes using a complimentary color as background may boost those hues.
